Library Resources
There are approximately 2900 junior and senior fiction books in the fiction section. There are also around 250 books which are quick reads - short books to get you into reading - and around 380 graphic novels (including manga and comic books).
The non-fiction section contains around 2330 books and is arranged using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme - numerical system where like subjects are located together. A helpsheet is available to explain DDC in more detail. There are guides at each bay which indicate which subject is on the shelves, but if you cannot find what you are looking for, just ask Mrs Vaughan for help.
The reference section holds around 100 books, covering all subject areas.
There is a small collection of Careers related materials available.
There is a selection of past papers available for National 4/5, Higher, and Advanced Higher courses. Specimen exam papers and past papers for all subjects, are currently available on the SQA website.
There is a collection of titles in the Staff Resources section which aims to support staff in their personal development.
Borrow Box – via this platform, you can access eBooks and audio books using your library card number Pxxxxxxxx. There are thousands of FREE eBooks and audio books to choose from covering fiction, non-fiction, adult, young adult and children’s books. You can download up to 4 eBooks/audio books at a time for a period of 3 weeks. Renewals are permitted if there are no reservations for the book. You can download eBooks/audio books onto laptops, PCs, mobile phones, iPads, Kindles, etc. Alternatively, you can read the eBook via a browser such as Internet Explorer or Chrome.
Pressreader – via this platform, you can access magazines and newspapers using your library card number and PIN. You must register with an email address and then gain access to over 7, 000 magazine and newspaper titles for free. There are many to choose from including: Top Gear; 3D World; National Geographic for Kids; Total Film; Cosmopolitan; PlayStation; Kerrang!; Science Focus; Match; and Smart Photography. There is no limit on downloads.
Freegal – access to over 16 million songs for FREE. You can stream 5 hours of music every day and download 5 music tracks, or 2 music videos, per week. Listen to samples before you download tracks and you can save and share on your devices. Every Monday you can download more.
SCRAN – FREE access over 370,000 images, movies and sounds from museums, galleries, archives and the media. The images can be downloaded by pupils and teachers to use in assignments and teaching materials provided the source is acknowledged.
Britannica Online – FREE access to the encyclopaedia online for children, high school pupils, or adults. Access it using your library card number Pxxxxxxxx. Accessible only from home or in NA public libraries.
Access to Research - an initiative to give free, walk-in access to a wide range of over 10 million academic articles and research in public libraries. Subjects include: art, architecture, business, engineering, history, languages, politics, philosophy, mathematics, sciences. Content can only be accessed online within NA public libraries.
